Christmas Season 2009

Fall is long over as I now realize after waking up to snow on the ground this morning. I must say that it was a welcome sight though. Now it really feels like Christmas. The day after Thanksgiving we decorated the house inside and out and then the cold weather hit. Now the snow is here and "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas."

This year the kids were in the choir for the annual Christmas program and Ian got the lead part of Leon, Noel spelled backwards. They both did a great job at singing, dancing, and remembering 58 lines. Way to go Ian, we are so proud of you. So here are some of the pictures from the last couple of weeks of festivites at the Miller house.

Happy Halloween 2009

I know I know only a couple of days have passed and here I am posting pictures again. On Friday evening we attended Gag Night @ Chapel Rock Christian Church as we do every year with our neighbors. It usually gets me out of going door to door but this year it was a night early and so I had to do both. The kids got to go trick or treating for the first time this year and they had a blast. Don't think I want to get to go again next year but it was fun watching them run from house to house and get excited everytime about some stranger giving them candy. We have the biggest bowl we have ever had this year. Fun times had by all.

Well so much time has passed and no blogging. I am going to try and update as much as possible and not make any promises about the next time I get on here.

School started off with a bang, Ian is improved soooooo much since that first week. Getting things done on his own, not depending on me so much, and actually getting true good grades all by himself. The teacher kicks in so easily that I forget he needs to accomplish the task at hand. Kylee is LOVING first grade. I don't think there is anything that she doesn't like. Her reading is about a 3rd grade level and she is breezing thru math. I couldn't be prouder of either one of them. Last week was the end of the first grading period and both kids brought home straight A's. Way to go kiddo :)

As for me I have 2 full time kids and 1 part time. Maddie will be leaving me in December to get to be a big sister. The other 2 will stay until the end of the school year. Between the 3 of them and then mine coming home as soon as they leave I am tuckered out to say the least. But we are very grateful for the opportunities to love other peoples children and then send them home.

As for fun things we have done, not much. Last week was our Fall Break and we took the kids horseback riding, for the 1st time, and got pumpkins for the holidays. We really enjoyed our time off and definitely weren't ready to get back to reality. So that sums up our fall and now we are headed into the busy holiday season and I can't wait. Summer was fun and now it is done

Well, as I sit here on Sunday evening I am realizing how much time has gone by without even waiting for me to catch up. We have had quite a lot of fun as a family this summer and we now must put it all to rest and start another school year.

Baseball and softball games thru June for the kids and then games for us started, and we still have more this week. First week of being out of school had VBX @ church. A trip to Cincinnati Beach for the day, 2 weeks later, a trip to King's Island. Many trips to the pool to work on our tans. Ian and Kylee both getting to go to church camp for the first time this year. And so many other things I am sure that I am forgetting.

Tomorrow will be Ian's first day of 4th grade and Kylee's first day of 1st grade. Who would have ever thought that my kids would grow up so fast? Certainly not me. I have loved every minute of watching you two grow up and can't wait to see what this year holds for both of you. Good Luck tomorrow and I love you both very much :)

As summer is winding down and the rain seems to have lifted some, our garden is trying to become something. Green beans were a total bust, planted 2x and got nothing. But everything else seems to be trying really hard to grow. So the feeding schedule has been made and we are going to do our best at making this thing grow. Here are the latest pictures. Pretty pathetic really but we are excited to get a little something. We have already eaten carrots and green onions, still waiting on the rest. "A watched pot never boils." I know but it sure is hard to wait. Anyway...

Summer is in full swing

As I was sitting here I realized that I haven't done much in the way of blogging. Facebook seems to get all of my time and I tend to forget about this. I have no idea how many people actually follow my blog so anyway...

Summer is keeping us pretty busy, library reading program, playing with friends, having cookouts, swimming and enjoying God's world. The most recent activity we took part in was a family picture on my side. There are 16 of us total now and we decided to have a family photo taken. After much discussion and planning we finally got it accomplished on July 4th. Despite fighting the rain and having the camera set on a timer we got the photos taken. And we couldn't be happier, so with no further adue, here they are......

Well to update the world on the garden, it is not doing so hot. We are in the process of deciding whether or not to start all over again. It has just been too wet. Oh well, maybe next year. :(

Well after much rain and tender loving care our garden has taken off. We never got the brocolli or cabbage to come up because they were planted where all the water seems to collect. Maybe next year. But we are enjoying watching everything grow so quickly and praying for something to harvest. We will definitely try again next year.

Kindergarten Graduation

I can hardly believe that a year has passed and my baby is now a big first grader. Today was the ceremony and boy did they put on a show. They showed us how to count, say our days of the week and the months of the year. The best part of the whole program was when they sang a special song about leaving kindergarten and moving up to first grade. Kylee did a wonderful job performing and showing off. And Mommy only shed a couple of tears, I didn't even have to blow my nose. LOL :)

Summer of 2009 is quickly approaching and we are very ready to get it going. The first thing we are going to do is watch our garden grow. We decided to plant our first garden as a family. After renting a sod cutter and a tiller, hauling in a load of compost, we finally got the seeds and plants in the ground. Lord willing we will have tomatoes, green peppers, banana peppers, pablano peppers, jalpenos, cabbage, broccoli, cucumbers, green onions, carrots, green beans, peas, and corn. Probably too ambitious for first timers but we had fun getting it together. Check out all our hard work.

Kylee had her first game this morning. Oh the days of having no clue. The weather couldn't have been more perfect either. She got to bat 3x and played short stop all morning. She had a blast. Hopefully she will learn more in the coming weeks and play again next year. I'm not sure who had more fun me or her. Go Kylee!!

Well another chapter of life has begun for the Millers. We have started baseball/softball season for 2009. And yes I said softball, Kylee is playing this year for the first time. But this one is all about Ian. He had his first game Saturday, April 25th against the Mets. We didn't keep score but the final was 22 (Rays) 10 (Mets). Ian played 2nd base the entire game, a new concept for him and got the last out of the game. He was so proud of himself and he really had fun. The best part about this season for him is that his Gramp, my Dad, is one of the head coaches. It is really fun to watch them out there together and learning the game as well as having fun. Kylee's season starts May 2nd so another post coming soon.

WOW! An entire month has gone by and I haven't done a single update. What's been going on here is too much. Between getting everyone off to school and trying to keep warm these days have slipped by quite quickly! Ian and Kylee have both started their ball seasons. I'll tell you 2 kids in 2 different leagues is more than enough for me. I seriously don't know how my Mom did 4.

We had a wonderful time this weekend preparing for Christ's resurrection. We enjoyed dyeing some eggs and spending lots of time with family. And we enjoyed some wonderful sunshine and an Easter egg hung with the cousins. Until next time....

I just wanted to brag about the newest addition to our family. Greg and Katie brought Afton into the world on Tuesday, March 10th @ 3:13 pm. She weighed in at exactly 7 lbs and was 20 inches long. Welcome :)

A Valentine Treat

For the first time in our married life, we left our children and headed west. After 11 years of marriage and no honeymoon we decided it was time to pamper ourselves. After much prayer and consideration we decided to ask our parents to keep your kids if we were to go somewhere and choose a destination. After getting the okay for the kids, we finally chose Las Vegas, Nevada. I was pretty scared to be going that far from home having never left my kids before but we really wanted to spend some time with our best friends, Mike and Starla. They are only 6 hours away and said if we kept them in the planning they would meet us there for the weekend. So we did it we left the kids for 3 nights and 4 days and went away.....and had the time of our lives. We were extremely tired and it took a week to recover from all the walking but we had so much fun that we can't wait to go somewhere again. The kids were wonderful and didn't give anyone any trouble. We ate great food, saw an outstanding Cirque du soeil Mystere show, and laughed until we cried with our friends. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Just thought that I would share my thoughts. I will post pictures soon.

After so much waiting and wanting we finally got some real snow to play in. The kids even got a snow day out of it and we able to play in it all day. And to top it all off our friends are here to visit from Texas and they got to enjoy it with us. YEAH!! Some memorable photos of our day.

With all the excitement of getting ready for the holiday season, we got to experience something different. Yesterday after Kylee had some rest time, I asked her if I could pull her loose tooth. She didn't want me to at first but I convinced her that it would be better if we got the tooth out. So after 3 pulls it was out. The tooth fairy brought her $1.75. WOOHOO, my tooth is out!!!!

As we kick off "the most wonderful time of the year," we did something really fun tonight. My parents brought over my niece and nephew and we made Christmas cookies. There was such a mess I can't even begin to describe it but we had some great fun. I'm not sure who had more fun the adults or the kids and it only took me an hour to get all the icing off of my dining room table. Great pictures and memories make it all worth it.

Among the snow and ice and rain and ice and cold there are some highlights that I wish to share. This week has been very full of music music music. On Sunday evening both kids sang in the annual church Christmas musical and then tonight Ian sang in the annual 3rd grade Holiday musical at Eagle Elementary. The pictures aren't great but the captured the memory and that is what is important. Ian in the red shirt was speaking a part, that he did very well in I might add. Only 6 more school days until break and we are all ready for some down time to try and get us all healthy again. I think that we are in this cold for the long haul now. Bummer!!

What a Month

This has been quite the whirlwind for us. We have had our share of sickness and out of school for everyone we know I think. On November 6th, we found out the Ian had pneumonia in the afternoon. Then after a couple of hours he was having trouble breathing and we ended up in the hospital for the night. Finally after missing 6 days of school with 2 weekends in there he was better. Then on Friday, November 14th Kylee got the flu mist and started having side effects 24 hours later. Come to find out on Monday she had pneumonia as well. She fortunately didn't get it as bad as Ian and only missed 2 days of school. Knock on wood, everyone seems to be better and on the mend. So in celebration we put up our Christmas tree not to mention the fact that I couldn't wait any longer. No the inside of my house feels warm and cozy and joyful. Only 36 more days, I just love Christmas.

After carving pumpkins, the kids couldn't wait until it was time to dress up for Halloween. They were counting down the days. I was just praying that I would feel well enough to take them. I have acquired the stomach flu of the season that is cramping beyond belief and a horrible headache, that nothing seems to touch. After some needed rest, Ian got it on Friday. Ended up going to school in the afternoon but then felt bad again afer school. We went out anyway and took them to our annual destination of Chapel Rock to GAG Night. They ended up having a great time and we are all paying for it today. I didn't sleep well last night and Ian puked this am at 5. We stayed inside ALL DANG DAY, and it was so beautiful too. Everyone is tucked in now so I snuck to the computer to update. Hopefully everyone will be all better tomorrow and we can enjoy the nice weather.

After some much needed rest time this afternoon we carved our pumpkins. We really enjoy getting to spend time as a family and get yucky! Everyone was very into the cleaning out this year and wanted to make non traditional scenes. After all was said and done here is what we got. Today the high hit 85 and we were at the pumpkin patch. Two years in a row now and we have been sweating like crazy and not bundled up to keep warm. NUTS!!

We went to Trafalgar this year and visited Apple Works Orchard. They had a petting zoo, trails to hike, mazes to figure out, rope swings, train rides, hay stacks to climb, tractor rides to the pumpkin patch, and so much more that we didn't even get to. Cory got off early today and we met up with Jennie's parents, and one brother and his family and his in laws, all in all there were 12 of us. We had a great time exploring and seeing as much as we could. There were lots of picture opportunities and I took as many as I could. Both kids picked their own pumpkins and carried them most of the way back to the cash register, thanks Daddy :) Needless to say we had a really great family day and made another memory.

I was surfing this morning and realized that I haven't posted for over 2 weeks. So I thought that I should at least post something.

News about the kids, Ian did well on a Math test this week. It was the first time that he brought home a book to actually study. It was really weird for me to think that he used the term "study." He came home yesterday and said that it was easy and he thinks he did well. Kylee is reading more and more everyday. She overslept yesterday and didn't wake her up instead I decided to just drive them to school so that they could rest some. As we were driving, we stopped at the railroad tracks and she said, "STOP, what does that spell Mom?" I told her to make the sound of each letter and she did then said, "That says stop." I wanted to cry but didn't. This morning she looked down at her shirt and sounded out the word lost on her shirt without even asking for help. I can't believe that leaps and bounds that she is taking from just 1 month of school. She told me the other day that she never goes out of the classroom and works with a mom. That is good because that would mean she needs extra help, that is what I do a couple times a month, help the "lost" kids. I am so glad that she loves school the way that she does and always wants to go back the next day. Cory has finished his first class of college, we will get the grade in a couple of weeks. His next class starts on October 1st and he has already started doing the homework. I couldn't be prouder of my 3 students that live under my roof. I guess my teaching degree is coming in more handy at home than in an actual classroom. Now if I could just get the baby I watch to crawl so she could follow me around instead of cry when I leave the room, life would be perfect. Nothing New

Well, I just had to post something before I get in trouble for not saying anything. The last couple of weeks have been a challenge to say the least. Cory has started college, so that makes 3 in my house with homework. There are some days that I just break down and cry because I can't handle the pressure of keeping them on task. I have discovered though that if I have dinner already cooking and all I have to focus on is the kids and their homework. It is amazing what can get done when I am not torn a 4th way.

About the only thing fun that we have done since school started was go to a place called Natural Valley Ranch over the weekend. Once a month they have horse rides, pony rides, petting zoo, bon fire, and hayrides for $25/family. We went with our small group and the kids had too much fun. They got to ride at least 5 different horses and really loved it. We are going to go back one of these days and go trail riding. Cory took a couple of pictures on his cell phone so when I get them on the computer I will post them to this spot. Othere than that we are pretty much school school and more school around here.

So today is day 12 of watching Madison while her parents are hard at work shaping our future leaders of the world. She is about 7 and 1/2 months old and needs to be eating food now. So we are trying very hard to get her to understand this concept. Needless to say it is a challenge and you can't help but smile at how determined she is not to let any more get into her stomach. This was breakfast today and lunch was even worse, the camera would have been covered in peas if I had gotten it out. Enjoy :) Be patient it is a very long video, almost 6 minutes.

End of first day of school

Well, I made it through. I wasn't sure that it was going to happen but it did. The bus finally got here, really late, and both kids came running off with open arms. They did miss us after all :) Both had wonderful days, made new friends, and neither of them got lost in a new building. I am so proud. All that worrying for nothing. After much talk about the day, a quick swim, dinner, and showers they are sound asleep in their beds and it is only a little after 8. Kylee was whipped!! Ian was pretty ready as well. I missed them badly but am still going to send them on tomorrow. Day 2 here they come.

First day of school

Sad but true, I put them on the bus this morning at 8:15. I teared up saying goodbye to Ian and then kept it together until the bus pulled away. I couldn't look at anybody else I had to just keep walking after that. It has been rough most of the morning talking on the phone and trying to not watch the clock. Both kids were excited and ready to go to school and that is always a relief. It isn't even noon yet and I am ready for them to come home. All the complaining about getting them back to school and now I want them home. Ian made sure that Kylee sat with him on the bus and that made me feel much better. Kylee should be eating lunch by now and Ian getting ready to. I can't wait for them to get home so I can hear all about their days. More to come later. . . .

Summer Days

Today was the last day of summer for 2008. We spent it by taking the kids to the zoo. We got going before 9 this morning and spent over 3 hours looking at the animals and enjoying being a family. I am very glad we did, we had a good time.

Now the kids have headed off to bed, over 2 hours ago and I am still crying off and on. I am very sad that tomorrow I put my baby on the school bus for the first time. Am I doing the right thing? I sure don't feel like it right now. I wish that I could make this day go away and make it never happen again. I have done laundry, made lunches, and coffee for tomorrow and still can't seem to keep my mind off of what is coming all too quickly. Ian is ready to head off to 3rd grade and Kylee is really excited about getting to ride Bubbies' bus and go to Kindergarten. I on the other hand am not by any means excited. It is good that Cory is off and I have Maddie to watch or I would go crazy. I don't know what we will do without our kids. They both prayed tonight for good days tomorrow and that they will be able to find everything in thier new school. All this said tomorrow will not be wordless for the Miller Family. Today was Kylee's 5th birthday. We enjoyed some sleeping in after spending yesterday in Cinncinati at The Beach doing water slides for almost 9 hours. Needless to say we were all very tired!! After opening presents Kylee baked her first breakfast in her Easy Bake Oven from Aunt Starla. The kids really loved working together and being curious about how it actually worked. Then we had cake with Gram and Gramp and Kylee rode her new 20" bike. After we were hot enough we played her 2 new games and then watched a movie. The kids went to VBS at Mt. Tabor and have now gone to bed. Here are the highlights of our day. Happy Birthday beautiful little girl of mine.

One week passed. . . .

Well we are now one week later and still haven't recovered from having company. The kids are being bored more often than not and wanting to watch TV all the time. We got really used to have 3 others live with us and we aren't quite sure what to do next. One the other hand things are starting to fill up quickly. We have only 1 month left until school resumes, or just plain starts for Kylee and trying to make time for everything is getting complictaed. Over the last several days we have had a cookout, instead of boating due to rain, a wedding in Louisville, and a day in Greencastle visiting family. I had nothing planned on my calendar and now all of the sudden there doesn't seem to be time for anything else. Pool parties, softball games, and Euchre Oh My!! Two small snapshots of our weekend is all I've got. Ian taking the picture of Kylee as she is looking at me for my picture.

Milestone

Another year older and in need of new things. We have finally moved up into the real world of having a Kindergartener in the house and realized she needed a new bed. So here she is all grown up and proud of the fact that she has a BIG bed now. I can't believe that we have come to this already, wasn't she a baby just yesterday? I know they grow but I sure wish that they would grow slower!!

We had great fun yesterday celebrating our independence. We started off by watching the parade in the rain. Then we rushed home grabbed food and headed out for a pool party. Grey skies didn't make for much warmth but did make great pictures. Came home had quick showers and then everyone took a nap for. After getting rested we headed downtown and watched some fireworks with popcorn and puppy chow. Great memories. Hope everyone else had as much fun as we did.

Holliday Park

Another beautiful day here in Indiana. We went to a newly found park again today and did some hiking, nature sight seeing, and playing on the playground. One of Starla's friends recently moved here from CA and we met up with her and her kids, she brought along her neighbor. Between the 4 of us we had lots of heads to keep counting. We have friends in from CA for the next 3 weeks. We have been staying busy learning to ride a bike, going to the zoo, and visiting parks around Indy. By the time we get the hoodlems to bed the parents are very tired. I will try to be better about posting in the near future.

Splash Island

Tonight we had staff of VBX appreciation in Plainfield at the water park. The rain finally stopped and we were able to go. The water was more than chilly but the kids had a wonderful time. We will definitely be going back there sometime this summer.

Every year on the last day of bible school the Brownsburg Fire Department provides a truck to spray the kids with the hose. They look forward to it every year and are always ready to do it again next year.

Hendricks County Night at Victory Field

We got to enjoy the Indianapolis Indians tonight in a very special way. One of Ian's teammates from little league has an aunt who works for the Indians. She got us hooked up to be on the field with the players before the game and we got to have box seats. The boys really had a great time and so did the parents watching the boys do something they will probably never get to do again. Go Indians and Marlins!!

This year I took a break and worked in the kitchen. I really enjoyed myself. It gave me more time to socialize and see all of the kids at church. The kids have had a wonderful time learning about the fruits of the spirit.

Summer Days

Today was really nice. I got to sleep in for the 2nd time and not have to rush around and take care of tons of babies. The kids enjoyed some time with Daddy at the park while I cleaned the house. This afternoon they enjoyed playing with water balloons and in the sprinklers. After dinner tonight they decided that they wanted to play with their mouse ears from our vacation back in October. Inaugural Geist 5K

For the first time we participated in a marathon as a family. On May 17th we walked around Geist Resivor for 3.1 miles. My Dad carried Kylee 2.99 of those miles but Ian and I walked hand in hand together. One brother ran the 13 miles and antoher brother ran the 5K. We enjoyed our time together and made it through. It was a major accomplishment for all of us and I am so proud to say that we did it. I had a little swelling the next day in one ankle but quickly recovered and we are already thinking of doing it again next year.

We are still waiting to hear from the school about Kylee. But we are keeping our fingers crossed! Today was the first day of summer and we spent it inside with grounded children. I have laid some basic rules and they couldn't follow them so needless to say it is going to be a long summer.

Ian is playing baseball again this year. He is on the Marlins. They are really starting to figure out the actual sport. We will have to wait and see what happens next year. So here are a couple of pictures from a couple of different games.

2007 Christmas Show

Last night was the kids Christmas show. Kylee was Mary in her program and Ian had 3 speaking parts in his. They did a fantastic job and we couldn't be prouder. Now we can sing some more tradition Christmas songs, thank goodness!!

First Snow

Well we finally have come into the winter season. We woke up this morning to about 2inches of snow on the ground. I know that it is the season but I sure am not ready for it. The kids on the other hand were ready for it and loved playing out in it. The snow was much too wet for snowballs, snowmen, or forts so snow angels was all they could do. They didn't much care, they were just happy to be out in it and playing with their friends.

Kylee had her first preschool event today. Nana surprised her and came. She baked the pumpkin breadand churnned the butter we snacked on. Then they sang a couple songs and recited a few finger plays. She is truely amazing at the things that she is capable of doing for others. Good job baby girl!! Check out the new video at the bottom of the screen.

Happy Halloween

Another year has flown by and we are having Halloween again. This year we had Princess Aurora Kylee and Darth Ian Vader. We stopped at the grandparent's house and the pastor's house before heading to Chapel Rock for carnival games and hot dogs. The kids had a great time and I got to visit with friends. We were glad to be indoors with lights!!

Veteran's Day @ Delaware Trails

On Monday of this week Ian had his Veteran's Day program honoring the military of our country. Ian was dressed up like Uncle Sam and had the important part of playing a fife down in front of everyone. He is 3rd from the left in this picture. The kids did a marvelous job, we certainly enjoyed their performance.

Back again

Well I don't know what happend but I can't seem to get into my old blog, so I just made a new one. The email account that we were using, Cory never checks and it obviously expired and I am not smart enough to figure out how to retreive it. So I guess we will be the silly ones to have 2 different sites for the same family.

Since the last time that I was here (on the other one) we have made a major trip to Florida and have met the mouse. We drove there and back with 2 vans, 6 adults, and 4 kids. Everyone had the time of their lives. There is so much to post I don't even know where to begin. I think I will put up a couple of pictures and then a link to youtube with my very first video.
